Help others while helping yourself

We are currently running the following research studies to help us learn more about how Single Session Interventions (SSIs) could help young people in the UK.

For young people experiencing low mood or who want to boost their wellbeing.

For young people who want to improve their sleep.

For young people to develop a better relationship with their body image.

We co-designed these interventions in partnership with LAMP, a young people’s advisory group (YPAG). We are funded by the National Institute for Health and care Research (NIHR).

You can find out more and take part right now, anonymously and without talking to anyone. All these studies are fully online, and you can complete them by yourself anywhere you want, and on any device that connects to the internet.

How do our studies work?

Our SSI is a digital self-help and self-education program. You’ll respond to questions and complete exercises designed to improve your thinking, and practice self-compassion.

It takes 30 minutes, it’s free, there’s no waiting list and you don’t have to speak to anyone. Find out more about SSIs.

Project Y.E.S. UK

Y.E.S. stands for Youth Empowerment Support. It is for young people experiencing low mood or who want to boost their wellbeing.

Young people in the UK, age 13-25, can get access to a choice of 3 online SSIs. Each intervention takes about 15 minutes to complete. Each teaches the young person more about how your brain works, how best to achieve your goals, and how to apply the new coping skills you learn to your own life through answering a few questions.

Project Y.E.S. UK has been approved by the University of Bath Biomedical Sciences Research Ethics Committee (approval number 9076-11968).

Project Sleep

Project Sleep is for young people who want to improve their sleep.

It is an SSI that we developed in partnership with psychologists at Rutgers University, the University of Sussex, the University of East Anglia and the Lab for Scalable Mental Health. Project sleep teaches young people about how sleep and mental health link, and scientific ways to improve sleep. Young people aged 13-25 in the UK and USA can take part. If you take part, you will be asked to complete some questionnaires about yourself, your sleep habits, and mood.

Our Project Sleep study has been approved by the Rutgers University Institutional Review Board (USA) and by the University of Bath (UK) Research Ethics Committee approval ref 0959-9659.

Project Body Neutrality UK

Project Body Neutrality helps young people to develop a better relationship with their body image.

It is an SSI that was developed by psychologists at the Lab for Scalable Mental Health, Northwestern University, USA. It teaches young people about a body-neutral mindset, how to cope with difficult thoughts and feelings about your body and gives them the opportunity to build their own body neutrality action plan. We are testing it out for young people in the UK. Young people aged 13-21 can take part. If you take part, you will be asked to complete some questionnaires about yourself and mood.

This study has been approved by the University of Bath (UK) Research Ethics Committee approval ref 5950-11850.
